2018/19 proved once again that the 2nd XI really are able to compete with even some of the best 1st XIs in the country, having finished 3rd in the BUCS North B league - the highest level at which a 2nd XI is able to compete. With the restructuring of the BUCS leagues in 19/20, the 2nd XI will be competing in the North A league against some of the best 1st and 2nd XIs in the North of England and Scotland.
On the weekend, the 2nd XI showed their consistency and strength by coming 2nd in Midlands 2, gaining promotion to Midlands 1. The aim for this team is to follow the trend of the 1st XI and win promotion into the National League system in the next few years.
Although a performance team, with a large number of pitch sessions and Strength and Conditioning sessions in the state of the art performance zone in the David Ross Sports Village, the 2nd XI are also a large presence in the social side of the club. This has been beneficial to the squad both on and off the pitch, and has been a pivotal reason for the team being one of the top university 2nd XIs in the country.
