The 2018/19 season has seen the team once again play some excellent hockey at the highest level. The highlight of the 1st XI’s season was finishing 1st in BUCS North A, BUCS’s highest league, going unbeaten in the process. This is testament to the incredible hard work that all the talented squad have put in over the year, led by the huge efforts of Matt Taylor and Jamie Cachia. With the creation of the new BUCS National League for the 19/20 season, the 1st XI will pitted against the best teams from across the country.
In addition to an unbeaten season in BUCS, the 1st XI put in a very strong showing on the weekends, narrowly coming 3rd in the North Conference, having won it in the 17/18 season. The aim for next season is to win North Conference and gain promotion to the Premier Division, in addition to retaining their BUCS crown in the new league system.
The performance side of the programme, including multiple weekly strength and conditioning, recovery and training sessions, is crucial to our 1st XI realising their achievements and performing at the highest level university sport can offer. However, a huge amount of the success can be accredited to the strong chemistry within the team. This is created through weekly socials with the wider club, which allow players to perform to the best of their abilities both on and off the pitch. Preseason starts in early September for the 1st XI so please do not hesitate to get in touch via social media or email us directly if you feel like you should be attending.
